{"id":768,"date":"2011-11-13T23:54:26","date_gmt":"2011-11-14T04:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/simplelifecorp.com\/simplelifeblog\/?p=768"},"modified":"2011-11-13T23:57:38","modified_gmt":"2011-11-14T04:57:38","slug":"loss-and-healing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/simplelifecorp.com\/simplelifeblog\/2011\/11\/loss-and-healing\/","title":{"rendered":"Loss and Healing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/simplelifecorp.com\/simplelifeblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Christmas-Cactus-005.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-772\" style=\"margin: 8px;\" title=\"Christmas Cactus\" src=\"http:\/\/simplelifecorp.com\/simplelifeblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Christmas-Cactus-005-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Sometimes, things happen that are unexpected and sharply, deeply painful.\u00a0 Sometimes they happen to someone you love.<\/p>\n<p>When a loss is suffered, we might be tempted to try to minimize it,\u00a0 to pretend it never happened, or even to try to explain it away.\u00a0 Worse, we might even tell ourselves or our loved one, that this sort of loss is common, everyone gets over it, it&#8217;s not that bad.\u00a0 We might even suggest that it shouldn&#8217;t hurt.\u00a0 Shouldn&#8217;t we just get on with it?<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t give in to this temptation.<\/p>\n<p>Denying the pain of loss also denies the experience of grief.\u00a0 Grief is a process that allows us to go deeper into ourselves.\u00a0 By experiencing grief and letting it unfold in full, we come to a place of acceptance and surrender.\u00a0 Once we have reached this place, we can also let go of compulsive needs to explain, to question why, to blame, or to replay movies in our minds about the event and what we &#8220;should have&#8221; done.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of grief, there may be times of lingering sadness, but the healing process has begun and we find ourselves ready to return to our life, however altered it now may be.\u00a0 When we don&#8217;t allow ourselves to grieve or to acknowledge that something has been lost, we not only miss this vital step toward accepting and healing, but we also miss the opportunity to honor the precious thing that we have lost.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging, remembering, and surrounding our loss with love brings a deep sense of peace.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not something we can get to by rushing the grieving process, nor by refusing to experience the messy and painful stages of grief.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledge loss. Grieve, feel the pain, and move through the stages of healing.\u00a0 Some losses may heal more quickly than others. Pay little attention to the length of time and give all your attention to simply experiencing and accepting.\u00a0 Your healing will be complete, without places of festering, such as resentment, withdrawal, anger, blame, or guilt.\u00a0 Your healing will bring a deep and cleansing peace.
