Our greatest power is the power of choice; our greatest freedom lies in the exercise of our power of choice.
--William Curtis
Sometimes life seems to be a stark contrast to what we really want. We may really want to go back to college, but find ourselves working long hours at a job instead. We may want to go home and rest after work but instead spend an extra hour transporting our children before we can go home.
We may feel unfulfilled and restless in many areas of life, both small and large. We may feel that life is unfair and that we are being forced to do something when we would prefer to be doing something else.
You can radically change your attitude when you accept the fact that you are responsible for all the things you do. Everything you do is a choice. For example, if you think about it, you certainly could go straight home after work, but you've chosen to drive the kids to their piano lessons. You certainly could go to college, but you are choosing to earn the extra income right now.
Take a close look at everything that you are resenting or that you proclaim you "have" to do. You may be surprised to find that with most, if not all, of these things you really do have a choice. There is nothing really stopping you from doing or changing those things. There is some kind of reason why you are doing what you are doing, and it's because you consciously or subconsciously made a choice to do it.
So money is tight and you have little left over for eating out or going to the movies? It creates a big shift when you realize that you are not really forced to pay the mortgage instead of going out. You are choosing to pay the mortgage because you are in control of your finances. That is a pretty powerful feeling.
Make conscious choices and enjoy the power and sense of self-confidence that this brings. When you realize that you are choosing instead of somehow being forced to do things, you can relax and be proud of your choices.

The biggest lie in choosing is, "I can't." That is simply not true. We can do anything we want. If we don't do something, it is because we have committed our time, energy and resources somewhere else.
--John-Roger and Peter McWilliams (Do It! Let's Get Off our Buts)
I discovered I always have choices and sometimes it's only a choice of attitude.
--Judith M. Knowlton
Master your choices, or become the slave of their consequences.
--Michael Rawls
You can always do what you want to do. This is true with every act. You may say that you had to do something, or that you were forced to, but actually, whatever you do, you do by choice. Only you have the power. to choose for yourself.
--W. Clement Stone
To decide to be at the level of choice, is to take responsibility for your life and to be in control of your life.
--Arbie M. Dale
Your life is the sum result of all the choices you make, both consciously and unconsciously. If you can control the process of choosing, you can take control of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom that comes from being in charge of yourself.
--Robert F. Bennett
